AACC Advances Faith Actors’ Priorities at the African Union Heads of State Summit
The All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) has commenced engagements at the AU ECOSOCC Civil Society Pre-Summit Symposium on the side lines of the African Union Summit. The theme of this year’s AU summit is, “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve Goals of Agenda 2063.” The AU-ECOSOCC Pre-Summit Symposium was organized to offer faith actors and civil society a strategic space to deepen their understanding of Africa’s development priorities and approaches to water governance.
The AACC’s engagement at the AU Summit is grounded in the Christian conviction that water is a gift from God and a sacred trust entrusted to humanity. Ensuring its sustainable financing is therefore a moral responsibility and very essential to advancing economic and climate justice, upholding the God-given dignity of every human being, nurturing peace, and promoting sustainable development across Africa. Despite the growing financing commitments, water remains inadequately funded, less-coordinated and reliant on debt creating instruments. The AACC is thus advancing faith actors’ advocacy renewed commitment to water financing as a strategy for ensuring climate resilience, good governance and human rights.
The AACC delegation to the symposium is comprised of Adrian Chikowore the Economic Justice Programme lead, the Executive Secretary for Gender, Faustina Manyangu and Bishop Vicentia Kgabe, the Bishop of Pretoria Diocese of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa.
